After 10 years operating with a loyal following as Legal C Bar at the Derby Street Shoppes in Hingham, Mass., the South Shore location recently transformed, emerging as Legal Sea Foods.
The newly renovated restaurant now features a modern interior with natural wood tones and pops of blue and yellow accents for a nautical flair. The former Legal C Bar closed earlier this year for a full renovation. Debuting over the summer as Legal Sea Foods, the restaurant now features many beloved dishes from baked stuffed lobster tails to their signature New England clam chowder.
In addition to familiar staples, the restaurant also offers a sushi and sake program, caviar and bubbles experiences, and “sea-cuterie” boards that include items like seasonal seafood salads, tartare, crab and caviar deviled eggs, and Cajun salmon bites.
Start off with one of their specialty cocktails like a lemony Legal White Sangria, pineapple-infused Tiki, Mango Lemon Drop, Cider and Spice Mule, or a classic Martini.
Pair it up with an order of spiced up Rhode Island-style calamari.
The generous portion of lightly fried calamari is tossed with hot peppers and garlic accompanied by a side of tartar sauce for dipping.
There is a nice selection of sushi available, including specialty maki red dragon rolls, caterpillar rolls, and rainbow rolls.
The standout Firecracker Roll features spicy tuna, salmon, tempura shrimp, and avocado. For the ultimate indulgence, there is also a lobster tempura roll on the menu made with avocado, lobster, tobiko, spicy mayo, and teriyaki.
The approachable menu is broken down into categories that include Crispy Fried, Fresh Catch prepared blackened or grilled, Legal Test Kitchen, Legal Classics, Surf & Turf, and Sandwiches and Salads.
A favorite Fresh Catch selection is blackened swordfish steak served with a side of herbed rice pilaf and grilled asparagus. If you are you looking for a signature dish, try the baked (over)stuffed lobster, linguini and clams served in a white wine sauce, Mediterranean swordfish, or the Maine lobster roll.
Legal Sea Foods got its start 70 years ago when it first opened as a fish market in Cambridge, Mass. Now owned by PPX Hospitality Brands, the brand has expanded to 25 concepts along the East Coast. Offering more than 40 varieties of fresh fish throughout the year, the restaurant continues to focus on serving up New England fare that goes by the same tagline it originally became known for, “If it isn’t fresh, it isn’t Legal!”
