If you’ve ever dreamed of getting a selfie with a Jonas brother, the new Nellie’s Southern Kitchen just may be your chance to do so. Father of the famous trio, Kevin Jonas Sr., is opening up a restaurant in downtown Belmont, about 20 minutes outside of Charlotte. Originally the lot was purchased in 2013 but it wasn’t until this year that plans actually started to materialize for the space.
The 10,000-square-foot venue will pay tribute to the Jonas’ grandmother who passed in 2011. Serving classic Southern food, the cuisine will be inspired by the family’s recipes and will feature dishes such as biscuits and gravy, homemade bread and pastries, shrimp and grits, and fried chicken.
“When we open Nellie’s Southern Kitchen, it is a way to honor my family but also to re-invest in Belmont,” Jonas said in a release. “Our hometown is thriving, and we want to help bring more visitors to town. Kevin, Joe and Nick have always loved visiting Belmont and look forward to their continued visits as we open the restaurant.”
Executive Chef Ben Sholiton is currently set to helm the kitchen with Kevin’s sister Joy Auten as managing director. Danielle Davison Jonas (cousin) will serve as operations manager. With around 60 relatives still living in the area, there’s a pretty good chance you’ll run into a Jonas or two when you visit. Fingers crossed for Nick to walk through its doors shirtless holding a guitar.
